Introduction
Researchers addressing doctors’ concerns that patients might not fully understand the risks and effects of treatments like IVF or simpler OI-IUI procedures conducted a study demonstrating how EngagedMD has improved both the patients' and doctors' views on the process of getting informed consent.
The Results
The results of the study show that the EngagedMD significantly improved patient education about treatment, gave them more control over their medical decisions, and better prepared them for consent.
After completing the online content, patients had significantly more favorable cycle expectations for both IVF and OI-IUI modules.
Overall,
- 97% of patients felt the MP a helpful addition to medical consultation/teaching
- 71% were more satisfied with their care
- 54% felt it answered questions they would’ve asked providers.
Compared to other sources of information, EngagedMD more effectively educated patients about process and risks. Overall, 73% of providers/nurses felt the EngagedMD improved patient learning and understanding.
Conclusions
The study suggests that EngagedMD is a useful tool for improving patient education and increasing satisfaction with their care. Additionally, EngagedMD is more convenient for patients and is particularly helpful for visual and auditory learners.
Providers and nurses found EngagedMD easy to implement and expressed confidence in its ability to improve patient learning and understanding. The study highlights the importance of patient education and informed consent in medical treatment, particularly in the case of IVF and/or low-tech OI-IUI treatment. EngagedMD can be a valuable addition to medical consultation and teaching to help patients make more informed decisions about their treatment.
